# Use Merch Titans on 2 Computers: Activation and License Reset

Each Merch Titans subscription works on 2 computers. A computer is activated the first time you press Start upload on it, and to move to a new computer you click Reset Machine License in the sidebar, then start an upload on the new one.

## Steps

1. **Log in on the computer.** Open Merch Titans on the computer you want to use and log in with your Merch Titans account.
2. **Press Start upload.** Set up an upload in Easy Mode or from a spreadsheet, then press Start upload on the upload screen, where you tick your listings.
3. **Pick your subscription.** If this computer isn't activated yet, the Select subscription to activate box opens. Choose your subscription and click OK, and the upload carries on.
4. **Free a computer when you switch.** If the app says all the licenses are already active on 2 machines, click Reset Machine License at the bottom of the sidebar on any computer where you're logged in.
5. **Choose the subscription to reset.** Pick the subscription in the list and click Continue.
6. **Confirm the reset.** Click Clear. The app shows Machine license reset successfully.
7. **Activate the new computer.** On the new computer, press Start upload again and pick your subscription when the app asks.

## How many computers

Each subscription works on 2 computers. If you have more than one active subscription, each one covers 2 computers.

## When a computer is activated

Not when you install the app, open it or log in. Activation happens when you press **Start upload** on the upload screen, the screen that says "Tick the listings you want, then start the upload." In Easy Mode, **Start upload** first takes you to that screen; the check runs when you press **Start upload** there.

Every time you press it, the app checks your subscription:

- **This computer is already activated:** nothing to do. The upload carries on.
- **This computer isn't activated yet:** a box opens, "Select subscription to activate". It lists your subscriptions by number and plan name, with an **OK** button. It appears even if you have only one subscription. It has no Cancel button, and Esc or clicking outside it doesn't close it, so pick a subscription and click **OK**. The computer is then activated on that subscription and the upload carries on.

After the check, the app may show "Please fix these spreadsheet rows" if any listing needs fixing, and then "Launching the app" as the upload starts.

## License messages

| Message | What it means | What to do |

| "No license found" | Your account has no active Merch Titans subscription. | Check you're logged in with the right account, or choose a plan on the [pricing page](https://merchtitans.com/pricing). |
| "All the licenses are already active on 2 machines" | Every subscription you have is already in use on 2 computers. | Free one with **Reset Machine License** (below), then press **Start upload** again. |
| "The licence server couldn't be reached. Please check your connection and try again." | The app couldn't connect to check your subscription. | Check your internet connection and press **Start upload** again. |

Any other refusal shows the server's own message.

## What counts as "this computer"

Merch Titans recognizes a computer by details of the computer itself, not by the app install. Reinstalling the app on the same computer keeps the same activation, so it doesn't use up your second computer.

## Move to a new computer

Use **Reset Machine License**, near **Log Out** at the bottom of the sidebar. You can do this from any computer where you're logged in to Merch Titans.

1. Click **Reset Machine License**. A box opens, "Select subscription to reset machine", with your subscriptions listed by number and plan name.
2. Pick the subscription and click **Continue**. Or click **Cancel** to stop.
3. A second box asks "Clear machine activation for this subscription?" and says "This will remove the current machine activation. You can activate another machine afterward."
4. Click **Clear** (the red button) to reset, or **Cancel** to stop.
5. The app shows "Machine license reset successfully".

Clicking **Cancel** at either step changes nothing and shows no message.

Then open Merch Titans on the new computer and press **Start upload**. When "Select subscription to activate" appears, pick the subscription and click **OK**.

> If a computer you still use shows "Select subscription to activate" after a reset, pick your subscription and click **OK** to activate it again.

### If the reset doesn't work

| "Unable to clear machines: No active MTA subscriptions found" | Your account has no active subscription to reset. Check you're logged in with the right account. |
| "Unable to clear machines: Unable to load subscriptions" | Check your internet connection and try again. |
| "Unable to clear machines: Unable to reset machine license" | Try again. If it keeps failing, see [Troubleshooting](https://merchtitans.com/docs/troubleshooting). |
| "Machine reset function not available. Please restart the app." | Close Merch Titans, open it again and retry. |

"Unable to clear machines:" can also be followed by a message from the server.
