# Troubleshooting Merch Titans: Error Messages and Fixes

Source: https://merchtitans.com/docs/troubleshooting (updated 2026-11-06)

To fix a problem in Merch Titans, find the exact message you see on this page, grouped by where it appears, with what it means and what to do. Many messages come down to four fixes: check your internet connection, finish the marketplace's setup, sign in again in the window the app opens, or retry only the listings that didn't finish.

## Steps

1. **Read the exact message.** Note the wording and where it appeared: a pop-up, a dialog, a note in a marketplace's browser window, or the reason beside a Failed row on the upload screen.
2. **Check your internet connection.** Merch Titans needs a connection when it opens, because it loads its latest version then, and when you press Start upload, because it checks your license then.
3. **Finish the marketplace's setup.** Open the marketplace from the sidebar. An orange dot means Needs setup, and the Where you sell list on Home names the first thing that's missing.
4. **Sign in where the app asks.** If a marketplace window asks you to sign in, sign in there and leave the window open. If you see Your login has expired, log in to Merch Titans again.
5. **Retry only what didn't finish.** On Upload Status, click Manage Uploads for the run, press Only unfinished, then press Start upload. Finished listings stay unticked, so they aren't uploaded twice.
6. **Restart the app.** Close and reopen Merch Titans. It loads its latest version each time it opens, so a restart picks up any fix that has been released.
7. **Contact support.** If the message keeps coming back, send the exact wording, the marketplace and what you were doing to support at merchtitans.com/contact-us.

Messages are quoted exactly as the app shows them. Words in square brackets, such as [n] or [file], are filled in by the app with a number, a file name or a reason.

> **Before you restart or reopen an upload** Upload Status starts empty each time the app opens, and the failure reasons beside each row can disappear when you reopen a run with **Manage Uploads**. Note any reasons you need first.

## Starting the app

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Merch Titans couldn't start. Please check your internet connection and try again." | The app didn't finish loading, or a page took more than 60 seconds. Merch Titans loads its latest version from the internet every time it opens. | Check your connection, then press **Try again**. |
| "Some pages didn't load, so your settings won't be saved this time. Please check your connection and restart the app." | Some settings pages failed to load, so the app won't save your settings during this session. | Check your connection and restart the app. Changes you make before restarting won't be kept. |
| "Downloading Chromium.." | Not an error. On first launch the app downloads the browser it uses for uploads. It does this again if that browser's folder was deleted. | Wait until the progress bar shows "Complete!". |
| "Downloading Update.." then "Update Ready" | Not an error. A one-time step on Windows after you install. | Press **OK**. The app closes, applies the update and opens again. |

## Signing in to Merch Titans

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Email cannot be blank" | The **Email** box is empty. | Type the email of your Merch Titans account. |
| "Password cannot be blank" | The **Password** box is empty. | Type your password. |
| "Please enter a valid email" | The email isn't in a valid format. | Check it for typos. |
| "Invalid Password" | The password is shorter than 6 characters, so the app didn't send it. | Check your password, or click **Forgot password?** to reset it. |
| "Invalid login details" | Merch Titans didn't accept the email and password. | Use the same email and password as your merchtitans.com account. Click **Forgot password?** to reset the password on the website. |
| "We couldn't reach the server. Please check your connection and try again." | The app couldn't contact Merch Titans to log you in. | Check your connection and press **Log in** again. |
| "Your login has expired. Please log in again." | Shown when you press **Start upload** and your Merch Titans login is no longer valid. The upload doesn't start, and the login screen opens with your email filled in. | Log in, then start the upload again. |
| No message: the app asks you to log in every time it opens | **Keep me logged in** was unticked when you logged in, so nothing was saved. | Tick **Keep me logged in** the next time you log in. |

> **Log Out** in the sidebar signs you out straight away, with no confirmation. It also removes your saved Amazon sign-in, the browser sign-ins for your other marketplaces and your MyDesigns token from this computer, so you'll sign in to those again. Your Printify and Printful tokens stay.

## Your license and computers

The license check runs when you press **Start upload**, not when the app opens.

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "No license found" | The Merch Titans account you're logged in with has no active subscription. | Check you're logged in with the right account. If you don't have a subscription, see [pricing](https://merchtitans.com/pricing). If you think you do, contact support. |
| "All the licenses are already active on 2 machines" | Each subscription covers 2 computers, and both are already activated. | Free one up with **Reset Machine License** (see below), then press **Start upload** on this computer. |
| "The licence server couldn't be reached. Please check your connection and try again." | The license check couldn't connect. | Check your connection and press **Start upload** again. |
| "Select subscription to activate" | Not an error. This is the first upload on this computer. | Choose your subscription and press **OK**. The computer is activated and the upload carries on. |
| "Your login has expired. Please log in again." | Your Merch Titans login is no longer valid. | Log in again, then start the upload again. |
| Any other message at this point | Merch Titans sent its own message about your license. | Contact support with the exact wording. |

To move to a new computer: on a computer where you're logged in to Merch Titans, click **Reset Machine License** at the bottom of the sidebar, choose the subscription, press **Continue**, then **Clear**. The dialog explains: "This will remove the current machine activation. You can activate another machine afterward." When you see "Machine license reset successfully", press **Start upload** on the computer you want to use. Pressing **Cancel** at either step changes nothing.

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Unable to clear machines: No active MTA subscriptions found" | No active Merch Titans subscription was found on this account. | Check you're logged in with the right account. |
| "Unable to clear machines: Unable to load subscriptions" or "Unable to clear machines: Unable to reset machine license" | The reset didn't go through. | Try again. If it keeps failing, contact support. |
| "Machine reset function not available. Please restart the app." | The app wasn't ready to reset. | Close and reopen Merch Titans, then try again. |

## Easy Mode

### Adding designs and choosing where to sell

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Please select PNG or JPEG files only." | None of the files you added are PNG or JPEG. | Add PNG or JPEG files. The app's advice: PNG with a transparent background, 4500 pixels wide or more. |
| "1 file isn't a real PNG or JPEG, so it was skipped." or "[n] files aren't real PNGs or JPEGs, so they were skipped." | The file has a PNG or JPEG name, but its contents aren't a PNG or JPEG image. | Export the design again as a PNG or JPEG from your image editor. |
| "Please select at least one platform" | No marketplace is switched on in step 2. | Turn on at least one marketplace. |
| "Please complete your platform settings before continuing:" followed by the marketplace and what's missing | A marketplace you turned on isn't set up yet. | Click its card in step 2 to open its settings. What each item means is listed below this table. |
| "Please add at least one design in Step 1 before continuing." or "Please select at least one platform in Step 2 before continuing." | You tried to skip ahead before finishing an earlier step. | Go back and finish that step. |

What the missing items mean:

- **Amazon Merch:** "Choose at least one product", or a price outside Amazon's range. These only apply when **Choose them here** is selected.
- **Printify:** "Connect your Printify account", "Replace your Printify token", "Choose a store" or "Add a product".
- **Printful:** "Connect your Printful account", "Replace your Printful token", "Choose a store", "Add a product to copy" or "Add your company details for the EU safety information".
- **Redbubble:** "Choose your template".
- **TeePublic:** "Background colour", which must be a 6-digit colour code such as #444444.

### AI listings and the trademark check

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Please select at least one field to fill." | Nothing is ticked in **Select fields to fill**. | Tick the fields you want written, then press **Start Analysis**. |
| "No fields are available for the platforms you've selected. Please enable at least one applicable platform." | AI found no fields to fill for the marketplaces that are on. | Check that at least one marketplace is on in step 2. |
| "Did not return suggestions for some designs." | AI didn't write text for every design. A "Warnings:" message may follow with details. | Find the designs with empty fields. Type the text yourself, or press **Write listings with AI** again: it only overwrites the fields you tick. |
| "Analyze Images failed: [reason]" | AI listing writing stopped with an error. | Try again. If it keeps failing, contact support with the reason shown. |
| "Please add at least one design before checking trademarks." or "Please select at least one platform before checking trademarks." | **Check trademarks** needs at least one design and one marketplace. | Add a design in step 1 and turn on a marketplace in step 2. |
| "The trademark check couldn't finish for [n] of [total] designs. Please try again before uploading." | Some designs weren't checked. Their badge shows "Check Failed", and the details can say "The trademark service couldn't be reached, so this listing wasn't checked." | Press **Check trademarks** again. |
| "Trademark check complete. Some designs have potential trademark issues. Review the results below." | Not an error. At least one design matched a registered trademark or a word on the app's own word list. | Click a design's badge to see the matches. Edit the text, or press **Fix all trademarks**. |
| "Partially fixed (may need manual review): [n]" | After **Fix all trademarks**, some designs still contain a flagged mark after up to 5 rewrites. | Edit the flagged fields on those designs yourself. |
| "Please select at least one trademark type to remove before fixing." | Both boxes in **Fix All Trademark Issues** are unticked. | Tick single-word, multi-word or both, then press **Fix All Trademarks**. |
| "Already fixing trademarks. Please wait." | A fix is already running. | Wait for it to finish. |
| "Fix all trademarks failed: [reason]" | The fix stopped with an error. | Try again, or edit the flagged fields yourself. |
| "No designs with trademark issues to fix." | No design has a trademark match to rewrite. | Nothing to do. |

> The trademark check is optional and never blocks an upload. Results aren't kept when the app closes, so run **Check trademarks** again after a restart. Words flagged from the app's own word list, such as profanity, aren't rewritten by either fix button: edit those by hand.

### Starting the upload from Easy Mode

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "No designs to upload" | Easy Mode has no designs. | Add designs in step 1. |
| "Please fix the following errors:" followed by one line per problem | A listing is missing something a marketplace you chose needs. | Fix each design listed. The possible lines are below this table. |
| "Failed to load Excel file into MTA app", "Error processing data: [reason]" or "Failed to process Easy Mode data" | Easy Mode couldn't prepare the upload. | Press **Start upload** again. If it keeps failing, restart the app and contact support with the message. |
| "Unable to restore latest Easy Mode queue." | **Reopen last upload** couldn't load your last Easy Mode upload. | Add the designs to Easy Mode again, or contact support. |
| No message: **Start upload** in Easy Mode didn't upload anything | Easy Mode's **Start upload** prepares your listings and opens the upload screen. | Tick the listings on the upload screen and press **Start upload** there to begin. |
| No message: **Start upload** does nothing | The agreement box on Home may be unticked. | On Home, tick "I agree to assume all responsibilities and risks that may be involved by using this tool." |

The lines after "Please fix the following errors:" are:

- "Design [n]: Title is required"
- "Design [n]: Title is over [limit] characters, the limit for the marketplaces chosen"
- "Design [n]: Title needs at least [min] characters for this store" (for example, a TikTok Shop store needs 25)
- "Design [n]: Description is required"
- "Design [n]: Tags are required"
- "Design [n]: TeePublic Primary Tag is required"
- "Design [n]: Amazon Merch Brand is required"

## Spreadsheet upload

### Loading the spreadsheet

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Please choose an XLSX file or use Easy Mode!" | You pressed **Continue** without choosing a file. | Click **Choose spreadsheet** and pick your .xlsx file. |
| "That spreadsheet is over 50 MB. Please use a smaller file." | The file is over the 50 MB limit. | Split the listings into smaller files. |
| "The format of the file you have selected is not supported. Please select a valid Excel file ('.xls, *.xlsx')." | The file isn't an Excel file. | Save it as .xlsx. A CSV file has to be saved as .xlsx first. |
| "Excel file is empty or contains invalid data." | The app found no rows it can read on the first sheet. | Put your listings on the first sheet, with each design's file path in column A. Only the first sheet is read. |
| "Image Path "[path]" doesn't exist." | There's no file at that path on this computer. | Column A needs the full path to the design on this computer, such as `C:\Designs\cat.png`. Check the spelling and that the file wasn't moved. |
| "Image Path "[path]" isn't an image file." | The file in column A doesn't end in an image extension. | Use an image file. The app accepts png, jpg, jpeg, gif, webp, bmp, tif and tiff here, but Printful and Printify take only PNG and JPG from a spreadsheet. |
| "Image Path "[path]" is on a network location. Please copy the image to this computer." | The path points to a network drive. | Copy the designs to a folder on this computer and update column A. |
| "That spreadsheet couldn't be opened: [reason]" | The file couldn't be read. | Check it opens in Excel, then save it again as .xlsx. |

### Starting the upload

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Tick at least one listing, then start the upload." | Nothing is ticked on the upload screen. | Tick listings, or press **Select all** or **Only unfinished**. |
| "This upload is already running" | You pressed **Start upload** again for an upload that's still running. | Follow it on **Upload Status**. |
| "Please fix these spreadsheet rows" | A marketplace needs something your sheet is missing. The dialog lists the platform, the row and what to fix, such as "Title column (Column B)" for an empty cell. | Fill in the cells, or check which columns each marketplace reads under **Spreadsheet columns** on its page. Marketplace-specific entries are in the sections below. |
| "Please fix these settings" | A marketplace's settings aren't complete. The dialog lists the platform and the setting. | Open that marketplace's page from the sidebar and fix the setting. |
| "Launching the app" | Not an error. The checks passed and the upload is starting. | Follow progress on **Upload Status**. |
| No message: a marketplace is missing from the upload screen | Only marketplaces switched on in Home's **Where you sell** list appear. Marketplaces that aren't fully set up are switched off when the app starts. | Finish its setup, switch it on under **Where you sell**, then load the spreadsheet again. |
| No message: **Continue** does nothing | The agreement box on Home may be unticked. | On Home, tick "I agree to assume all responsibilities and risks that may be involved by using this tool." |

> **Ticking a finished listing uploads it again** Listings that already finished start unticked. If you tick one again, for example with **Select all**, Amazon Merch, Redbubble and TeePublic upload it again as a new listing. Printify and Printful skip products they already made. To retry, use **Only unfinished**.

## Amazon Merch on Demand

Amazon uploads run in a browser window the app opens. Sign in there and leave the window open until the run ends.

### Signing in to Amazon

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Please log in to your account. You may refresh this tab, but do not close it." | You aren't signed in to Amazon in the upload window. | Sign in to Amazon in that window. The app waits as long as you need and carries on once your Merch dashboard opens. |
| "Amazon needs you to finish signing in. Please sign in in this window. You may refresh this tab, but do not close it." | Automatic sign-in couldn't finish, for example because Amazon asked for a code, a passkey or a puzzle. | Finish signing in yourself in that window. |
| "You were logged out! Please log in to continue!" | Amazon signed you out during the run. | Sign in again in the Amazon window. |
| No message: the Amazon window is waiting on a verification code | The app doesn't enter verification codes. | Enter the code in the Amazon window. The upload carries on after. |

### Before the upload

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Title column (Column B)" or "Brand column (Column F)" in "Please fix these spreadsheet rows" | The title or brand cell is empty. Both are required for Amazon. | Fill in the cell. |
| "Title needs at least 3 characters" or "Brand needs at least 3 characters" | Amazon needs a title and a brand of at least 3 characters. | Lengthen them. |
| "Description needs at least 75 characters, or leave it empty" | The description is optional, but if you use one it needs at least 75 characters. | Lengthen it or clear it. |
| "[product] [marketplace] price must be [min] to [max]", for example "Standard t-shirt .com price must be 13.38 to 35" | A price you set with **Choose them here** is outside Amazon's range. | Change it in that product's **Options**, or leave it blank to use Amazon's suggested price. |
| "Choose at least one product" | **Choose them here** is selected, but no product is ticked. | Tick a product, or switch to **Use my Amazon publish settings**. |

### During the upload

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "No products are saved in your Amazon publish settings. Choose them on Amazon's Create page and select Save publish settings." | You use **Use my Amazon publish settings**, but no products are saved on Amazon. | On Amazon Merch, open Create, select your products and colours, choose **Save publish settings**, then retry. |
| "Amazon kept failing to take this design." | Amazon didn't take the design file after several tries. | Check that the file opens and fits the print area shown for the product on the Amazon Merch settings page, for example 4500 x 5400 px for a standard t-shirt. |
| "Amazon won't accept this listing. Check the [fields]." | Amazon flagged fields such as "title (3 to 60 characters)", "brand (3 to 50 characters)", "feature bullet 1" or "description (75 to 2000 characters)". | Fix those fields and retry. |
| "Amazon won't accept this listing. Check its prices, colours and artwork." | Amazon didn't accept the listing, and no text field was flagged. | Check the product's prices, colours and artwork options on the Amazon Merch page. |
| Technical text that doesn't read like a sentence | Some unexpected errors are shown as they come. | Retry the listing. If it repeats, send the text to support. |
| No message: a title or bullet is shorter on Amazon than in your sheet | The app cuts titles to 60 characters, brands to 50, each bullet to 256 and descriptions to 2000, without a message. | Keep text within those lengths. |
| No message: a product you chose isn't on the listing | If Amazon's Create page doesn't offer you that product, it's skipped. | Check which products your Amazon account can create. |
| No message: a row stays at "Publishing" after the run ends | The app moved on without marking the row. | Check the listing on Amazon before you upload it again. |

> **Amazon Merch settings save at upload time** Changes on the Amazon Merch page are saved when you start an upload, or when you change a setting on the Printify, Printful, Redbubble or TeePublic page. If you change Amazon settings and close the app before either happens, the changes are lost.

| "Your Printify token doesn't have permission for this. Please create one with all the listed permissions and reconnect." | The token is missing a permission. | Create a token with `shops.read`, `catalog.read`, `print_providers.read`, `products.read`, `products.write`, `uploads.read` and `uploads.write`, then press **Replace token**. |
| "Printify stopped accepting your saved token. Paste a new one below. Your upload history is kept, so nothing gets made twice." | The saved token no longer works. | Paste a new token. |

| "Printful: [n] windows are opening. Leave them open and don't minimize them until the upload finishes." | Not an error. Printful uploads use up to 3 windows. | Leave them open and visible until the run ends. |

### Settings

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Please choose a store first." | You tried to add a product before choosing a store. | Choose a store, then press **Add a product**. |

| "Printful didn't finish taking [file]. It may be too large or the wrong type." | The file wasn't ready in Printful's file library within 3 minutes. | Check the file's size and type, then retry. |
| "Printful got stuck on [step]. Running this row again won't make a duplicate." | A step such as "adding your design" or "the pricing page" didn't finish. | Retry the listing. |

## FAQ

### How do I retry failed listings in Merch Titans?

Open Upload Status, click Manage Uploads for the run, press Only unfinished, then press Start upload. There is no separate Retry button, and Only unfinished leaves finished listings unticked so they aren't uploaded again.

### Why didn't Start upload in Easy Mode upload anything?

Easy Mode's Start upload prepares your listings and opens the upload screen. Tick the listings there and press Start upload a second time to begin. If nothing happens at all, check that the agreement box on Home is ticked.

### What does "All the licenses are already active on 2 machines" mean?

Your subscription is already activated on its 2 computers. On a computer where you're logged in, click Reset Machine License at the bottom of the sidebar, then press Start upload on the computer you want to use.

### Why does Merch Titans say it couldn't start?

Merch Titans couldn't start means the app didn't finish loading. It loads its latest version from the internet each time it opens, so check your connection and press Try again.
