# Update Merch Titans: Restart the App to Get the Latest Version

Merch Titans loads its latest version every time it opens, so restarting the app is how you update it. You never need to reinstall it for an update, and the What's new bell in the title bar and merchtitans.com/docs/changelog show what changed.

## Steps

1. **Check your uploads.** Look at Upload Status first. It starts empty after a restart, so note anything you still need from it.
2. **Close Merch Titans.** Click Close at the top right of the window. This quits the app.
3. **Open it again.** Open Merch Titans as usual, with your internet connection on. It loads its latest version as it opens.
4. **Log in if asked.** If you had unticked Keep me logged in, log in with your Merch Titans account.
5. **See what changed.** Click the bell in the title bar and choose Recent updates.

## How updates reach you

Every time you open Merch Titans, it downloads its latest version before it shows the login screen or Home. So:

- **A restart is the update.** Close the app and open it again.
- **No reinstall.** The installer you downloaded only starts the app; the app itself always comes fresh.
- **No update prompt.** The app doesn't tell you when a new version is out. The yellow dot on the bell does show when there's a release you haven't opened yet.
- **An open app stays on its version.** The version you're using is the one that loaded when you opened the app. If you keep Merch Titans open for days, restart it to get the latest.
- **Your work is kept.** The first time a new version opens, it clears its stored page files. Your sign-ins, settings and saved work stay.

Because the app loads itself at launch, it needs an internet connection every time it opens.

> **The one-time Windows update** On Windows, the very first launch after you install shows "Downloading Update.." and an "Update Ready" box. That runs once per install and isn't how normal updates arrive. See [Download and install](https://merchtitans.com/docs/download-and-install).

## See what changed

Click the bell, **What's new**, at the right of the title bar. A yellow dot on it means there's a release you haven't opened yet on this computer.

- **Recent updates** shows the newest 3 releases, each with its date, title and a list of changes.
- **Changelog** shows every update so far.

## If the app doesn't open after a restart

If Merch Titans can't load while it opens, the window shows "Merch Titans couldn't start. Please check your internet connection and try again." Check your connection and click **Try again**.

> If you see "Some pages didn't load, so your settings won't be saved this time. Please check your connection and restart the app.", restart Merch Titans before you change any settings. Until you do, setting changes aren't kept.
