How Etsy Fees Work in 2026

Etsy charges sellers several types of fees for every item listed and sold. Understanding these fees is critical to pricing profitably. Here's how each one works:

  • Listing Fee — $0.20

Every time you create or renew a listing, Etsy charges $0.20. Listings automatically renew every 4 months or when the item sells.

  • Transaction Fee — 6.5%

Etsy charges 6.5% of the item price plus any shipping you charge the buyer. This is Etsy's primary revenue stream.

  • Payment Processing Fee — 3% + $0.25

When a buyer pays via Etsy Payments, Etsy deducts 3% of the total order amount plus $0.25 per transaction. Rates vary slightly by country.

  • Regulatory Operating Fee — 0.65%

Applies to the item price and shipping charged. This fee covers Etsy's compliance costs in certain jurisdictions and was introduced in 2022.

  • Offsite Ads Fee — 12% or 15%

When Etsy promotes your listing on Google, Instagram, or other external channels and a sale results, they charge 15% (for sellers under $10K annual revenue) or 12% (for sellers over $10K). Sellers under $10K can opt out; sellers over $10K cannot.

How to Calculate Your Etsy Profit Margin

Calculating your Etsy profit margin correctly means accounting for every cost — not just Etsy's fees. Here's the formula:

Revenue = Item Price + Shipping Charged

Etsy Fees = Listing + Transaction + Processing + Regulatory + (Ads)

Total Costs = COGS + Shipping Cost + Etsy Fees

Net Profit = Revenue − Total Costs

Margin % = (Net Profit ÷ Revenue) × 100

As a rule of thumb, target a profit margin of at least 30% on Etsy. If your margin is below 20%, consider raising your price, reducing COGS, or optimizing your shipping costs.

Tips to Maximize Your Etsy Profit

1

Price for Etsy fees, not just COGS

New sellers often forget that Etsy takes 10–15% off the top before you even pay yourself. Use this calculator before setting your price to ensure you hit your target margin.

2

Use free shipping strategically

Etsy rewards listings with free shipping in search rankings. But if you offer free shipping, bake the cost into your item price — otherwise you're paying out of your margin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Etsy seller fees and profit calculation

What fees does Etsy charge sellers?
+

Etsy charges sellers four main fees: a $0.20 listing fee per item, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping charged to the buyer, a payment processing fee of 3% + $0.25 per order through Etsy Payments, and a 0.65% regulatory operating fee on the item price and shipping. Optional fees include Etsy Ads spend and an Offsite Ads fee of 12–15% when Etsy drives a sale through external advertising.

How is the Etsy transaction fee calculated?
+

The Etsy transaction fee is 6.5% of the item price plus any shipping amount you charge the buyer. For example, if your item is $20 and you charge $5 shipping, the transaction fee is 6.5% × $25 = $1.63. Note that this fee applies to the shipping you charge the buyer — not what you actually pay to ship the item.

What is Etsy's payment processing fee?
+

Etsy's payment processing fee is 3% of the total order amount (item price + shipping charged to buyer) plus a flat $0.25 per transaction. This fee applies when buyers pay via Etsy Payments, which is the default payment method on Etsy. The rate may vary slightly depending on your country.

Are Etsy Offsite Ads mandatory?
+

It depends on your sales volume. If you've earned less than $10,000 USD on Etsy in the past 365 days, Offsite Ads participation is optional and you can opt out in your shop settings. However, if you've earned $10,000 or more, participation is mandatory. When Etsy drives a sale through an external ad (like Google Shopping or Instagram), they charge 15% of the item price for sellers under $10K, or 12% for sellers over $10K.

How much profit can you make selling on Etsy?
+

Profit on Etsy depends heavily on your pricing, product costs, and fee strategy. A healthy Etsy profit margin is generally 30–50% after all fees and costs. For example, a $25 item with $8 COGS, $4 shipping cost, and no ads can yield around 40% margin. Print-on-demand sellers often see lower margins (20–35%) due to higher base costs, while handmade sellers with low material costs can achieve 50%+. Use this calculator to model your specific scenario.

What is the Etsy regulatory operating fee?
+

The Etsy regulatory operating fee is 0.65% of the item price plus shipping charged to the buyer. Etsy introduced this fee in 2022 to cover regulatory compliance costs in certain markets. It applies in addition to the transaction fee and is charged on every sale in eligible countries. For a $25 sale, this fee amounts to $0.16 — small individually but it adds up across many sales.
