What Is the Etsy Shipping Calculator?
People searching for the Etsy shipping calculator usually mean one of two things, and Etsy's help center keeps them apart:
- The shipping calculator estimates label prices before you ship. Etsy says its rates are for reference only and the final cost appears when you buy the label.
- Calculated shipping is a shipping profile setting that works out the buyer's shipping price from your location, the buyer's location, and the item's size and weight.
How to Use the Etsy Shipping Calculator in 6 Steps
Etsy says US sellers can preview domestic and international costs before buying a label. Here is the path from its help center:
- Open Shop Manager on Etsy.com.
- Select Help from the menu.
- Choose Estimate shipping costs.
- Pick Domestic or International.
- Enter the package details: origin and destination postal codes (or destination country), package type, weight and dimensions.
- Select See rates & discounts to compare retail prices with the USPS, UPS and FedEx prices on Etsy.
Treat the number as an estimate. Etsy states the calculator rates may change and the final price is shown when you buy the label.
Calculated Shipping vs Flat Rates for POD Sellers
Calculated shipping is available if you are in the US or Canada and ship with USPS, Global Postal Shipping or Canada Post. You add item weight and packed size to each listing, and Etsy defaults to the least expensive eligible shipping method.
That design assumes you pack the box. With print on demand, your provider ships the order, so you are pricing against the provider's shipping charge, not a USPS label you buy. In practice you will set a flat or free-shipping price per profile and check it against the provider's rate for the first item and for each extra item. Etsy's help center does not say how calculated shipping works with provider-fulfilled orders, so we do not recommend relying on it for POD without testing one listing.
What Etsy Takes From the Shipping You Charge
This is the part most calculators miss. Etsy's transaction and processing fees are charged on the order total, shipping included.

Etsy's own free shipping example shows the logic: if you sell a $35 item with $5 flat shipping, you can list it at $40 with free shipping and the buyer pays the same $40.
Worked Example: One Gildan 64000 Tee on Etsy
We used one real base price and one clearly labeled assumption. The base cost is the 240 Express price for a Gildan 64000 on the MyDesigns Free plan, $7.95 (MyDesigns catalog, Oct 26, 2026). The provider shipping charge of $4.50 is an illustrative number, so replace it with your provider's actual first-item rate. We ignore sales tax and the $0.20 listing fee is counted once per sale.

Four lessons from the table:
- A and B are identical. Free shipping is a display choice. The buyer total and the fees do not change.
- C is the trap. Switching to free shipping without raising the price cost about $4.50 per order (the $4.99 of shipping you stop collecting, less about $0.47 in fees you also stop paying).
- An Offsite Ads sale cut profit by $4.50 (15% of $29.98), so decide your floor price with ads in mind.
- Base cost matters. The $7.95 to $7.31 base price gap adds $0.64 to every shirt, and it compounds with volume.
The Minimum Price Formula
Because Etsy's percentages apply to the whole order, the break-even price is not simply cost plus fees. Solve for the order total:
Minimum order total = (base cost + provider shipping + $0.45) ÷ 0.905
The $0.45 is the $0.20 listing fee plus the $0.25 processing flat fee. The 0.905 is 1 minus 6.5% minus 3%. If an Offsite Ads fee of 15% may apply, divide by 0.755 instead. Using our $12.45 cost:

Peak Season: Add the Fees Your Provider Adds
Printify says every order with a US destination address carries a $0.40 surcharge across all shipping methods from Oct 15, 2026 through Jan 17, 2027 (printify.com network fulfillment status, checked Oct 30, 2026). If you fulfill through Printify, add $0.40 to the shipping cost in the formula. We did not find a peak-season surcharge in the MyDesigns docs we read, so check the live catalog before Black Friday.
