The best platform to sell digital products in 2026 is MyDesigns Store if you create and list at scale. It charges 3% to 6% plus Stripe processing, has no listing fees and sells digital and print on demand items in one cart. Etsy is best for built-in search traffic, Gumroad for the simplest setup, Payhip for flat-fee plans and Shopify for a full store. Fees checked Oct 29, 2026.
Quick Verdict
- Best overall for sellers who create and list at scale: MyDesigns Store. Bulk upload, bulk publishing to Etsy, Shopify and TikTok Shop, and your own checkout.
- Best for built-in buyer traffic: Etsy. Shoppers already search there, at the cost of a $0.20 listing fee per item and a 6.5% transaction fee.
- Best for the quickest setup and memberships: Gumroad. Upload a file, set a price, and it handles tax as merchant of record.
- Best for predictable flat plans: Payhip. Fees fall from 5% to 2% to 0% as you pay $0, $29 or $99 a month.
- Best for a full branded store with its own app ecosystem: Shopify. Selling digital products adds no extra fee (Shopify Help Center).
What Is the Best Platform to Sell Digital Products?
Digital products are files a buyer downloads, such as printables, templates, planners, clipart and e-books. You make them once and deliver them without shipping. That means the platform decides three things for you: who finds your listing, what each sale costs you, and how fast you can list the next product.
How We Ranked Them
We checked the official fee and feature pages for each platform on Oct 29, 2026: Etsy Fee Basics and digital listings help, Gumroad's pricing and features pages, Payhip's help center billing article, Shopify's pricing page, Help Center and Digital Products app listing, and MyDesigns' pricing, plan docs, Store and digital products pages. We ran no sales test, so there are no conversion or earnings claims here.
We ranked on four things: fee per sale on a $10 download, buyer traffic you do not have to create, tools for listing at volume, and how many product types one account can sell. Our editorial policy explains how we check facts.
Full disclosure: Curtis Blackmore, who owns Merch Titans, also founded MyDesigns. It is ranked first below for checkable reasons, and its limits get their own section.
Fees on a $10 Digital Download
| Option | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| MyDesigns Store (Starter / Pro / Pro Plus) | 6% / 4.5% / 3% + Stripe 3% + $0.25 | $0.60 / $0.45 / $0.30 plus $0.55 processing, so about $8.85 / $9.00 / $9.15 left; plan from $19.99/mo billed yearly; no listing or ad fees |
| Etsy | $0.20 listing + 6.5% transaction | $0.85 in Etsy fees, about $9.15 left before payment processing, which varies by country |
| Gumroad (direct sale) | 10% + $0.50 | $1.50, about $8.50 left; its pricing page lists no separate processing fee; no monthly fee |
| Gumroad (found via Discover) | 30% | $3.00, about $7.00 left |
| Payhip Free / Plus / Pro | 5% / 2% / 0% | $0.50 / $0.20 / $0 plus PayPal or Stripe fees; plans cost $0 / $29 / $99 a month |
| Shopify | No extra fee for digital products | You still pay your Shopify plan and card processing; plan prices did not render on the pricing page when we checked, so none are quoted |

Two caveats keep this honest. Payment processing is handled differently on each platform: Etsy charges it separately by country, MyDesigns lists Stripe's 3% + $0.25 in the plan docs, and Payhip says PayPal and Stripe still charge their own fees. And Payhip's billing article is dated June 20, 2021 on its help center, while payhip.com/pricing blocked our fetch, so confirm Payhip's plans on its pricing page before you sign up.
1. MyDesigns Store: Best for Sellers Who Create and List at Scale
MyDesigns (mydesigns.io) is an all-in-one platform for print-on-demand and digital-product sellers. You can generate designs with Dream AI, edit them in Canvas, remove backgrounds, upscale and vectorize in bulk, render mockups, and write titles and tags with Vision AI. You then bulk-publish to Etsy, Shopify, WooCommerce, TikTok Shop or your own MyDesigns Store. Plans start free; paid plans run from $19.99/mo billed yearly.
Three checkable facts back the #1 spot:
- The fee schedule is low and simple. The plan docs (checked Oct 29, 2026) list a 6% transaction fee on Starter, 4.5% on Pro and 3% on Pro Plus, plus Stripe's 3% + $0.25, with no listing fees and no ad fees.
- One cart holds digital and physical items. The MyDesigns Store page says a single cart supports print on demand and digital products in the same order, digital files deliver automatically once payment clears, and POD orders route to your print partner.
- It is built for volume. The Store page says you can bulk upload up to 120 designs at once and apply a master template, and the digital products page lists a five-step workflow: create or upload, build previews with the mockup generator, write SEO copy with Vision AI or Phraser AI, publish in bulk to Etsy, Shopify and TikTok Shop, and automate delivery.
Choose it if you make many designs, want one workspace for Etsy listings and your own store, and may add POD products later. Stores run on Starter, Pro and Pro Plus, from 1 to 3 stores, with free custom domain support and free SSL listed on the Store page.

MyDesigns Limits
- Stores need a paid plan. The Free plan has no Store, and it publishes 4 products per batch with no monthly AI credits (plan docs, checked Oct 29, 2026).
- It is not a marketplace. MyDesigns is a seller platform, so you bring the traffic. Etsy and Gumroad Discover can send you buyers you did not find yourself.
- Marketing tools are still arriving. The Store page lists a Klaviyo integration and native Meta and Google Shopping sync as coming soon.
- We did not find memberships, courses or license keys on the Store page. If you sell those, check Gumroad first.
Who might choose something else instead: creators selling a single course, membership or software license key, and anyone who only wants Etsy's built-in traffic.

2. Etsy: Best for Built-In Buyer Traffic
Etsy is the fastest way to put a digital product in front of people who are already shopping for one. Etsy Fee Basics (checked Oct 29, 2026) lists a $0.20 listing fee per listing, a 6.5% transaction fee on the total order, and payment processing that varies by country.
The Help Center also sets the rules: a digital listing holds up to 5 files of 20MB each, cannot have variations, and the item must be made or designed by you. Etsy requires sellers to disclose AI use, so read our Etsy AI and photo rules guide before you upload a batch. For product ideas and listing steps, see our Etsy digital downloads guide.
Choose it if you want search traffic you do not have to build. The tradeoff: every listing costs $0.20, so a catalog of hundreds of items has a real upfront cost, and a tool such as MyDesigns saves time on publishing, not on Etsy's fees.
3. Gumroad: Best for the Quickest Setup and Memberships
Gumroad's pricing page (checked Oct 29, 2026) charges 10% + $0.50 per transaction on sales through your profile or direct links, and 30% when new customers find and buy from you through its Discover marketplace. There is no monthly fee. Since Jan 1, 2025, Gumroad says it is the merchant of record and handles sales tax collection and remittance worldwide.
Its features page lists memberships, subscriptions, pay-what-you-want pricing, license keys, multiple file formats and custom domains. That is a wider creator toolset than a basic file store.
Choose it if you sell courses, memberships or software and want tax handled for you. The tradeoff: the flat $0.50 hurts low-priced items, because on a $4.99 download the direct fee is about $1.00, or roughly 20%.
4. Payhip: Best for Predictable Flat Plans
Payhip's help center says the Free plan costs $0 a month with a 5% fee per transaction, Plus costs $29 a month with a 2% fee, and Pro costs $99 a month with none. PayPal and Stripe still charge their own fees. Treat the plans as unconfirmed until you check payhip.com/pricing, since that page blocked our fetch.
The break-even math is the useful part. Free to Plus: 5% of sales equals $29 plus 2% of sales at about $967 a month. Plus to Pro: $29 plus 2% equals $99 at $3,500 a month.
Choose it if your monthly sales are steady and you want your fee to fall as you grow. The tradeoff: there is no marketplace traffic to lean on, and we could not check its listing tools because its public pages blocked our fetch.
5. Shopify: Best for a Full Branded Store
Shopify's Help Center (checked Oct 29, 2026) says there are no additional fees for selling digital products on your online store. Shopify's own free Digital Products app lets you attach files or links to products, set access limits, send access links after purchase, and combine digital files with physical product variants.
Shopify's pricing page (checked Oct 29, 2026) offers a 3-day free trial, then $1 a month for 3 months. The standard monthly plan prices did not render when we checked, so we quote none.
Choose it if you want a full store with themes and apps and expect to scale beyond digital files. The tradeoff: you carry a monthly plan and card processing from day one, and you must drive your own traffic.
Which Platform Should You Pick?
| Your situation | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Many designs to list, selling on Etsy and your own store | MyDesigns Store | Bulk upload up to 120 designs, one cart, low fees |
| Want existing shoppers to find you | Etsy | Built-in search traffic |
| Selling a course, membership or license keys | Gumroad | Features listed on its features page |
| Steady sales and a fee that shrinks with volume | Payhip | $0, $29 or $99 plans (confirm on its pricing page) |
| Want a full storefront with app ecosystem | Shopify | No extra fee for digital products |
| Selling both digital and print on demand | MyDesigns Store | One cart holds both |
Worked Example: When a MyDesigns Store Beats Gumroad
Take a $10 download. Gumroad's direct fee is $1.50. A MyDesigns Store on Starter costs $0.60 plus $0.55 in Stripe processing, or $1.15, plus the $19.99 monthly plan billed yearly. The difference is $0.35 a sale, so the plan pays for itself after about 58 sales a month, or $580 in revenue.
This assumes Gumroad's 10% + $0.50 covers processing, which its pricing page does not break out. It also ignores everything else your Starter plan includes, such as bulk publishing, mockups and Vision AI. See the full MyDesigns plan details before you decide.
Use More Than One
Most sellers do not need one platform. A common split is Etsy for discovery and a store for the customers you already have. Read Etsy's seller policies before you point Etsy buyers to another site. To list at volume, our guide to bulk creating and listing digital downloads on Etsy ranks the tools. To compare digital with physical products, see digital products vs print on demand.

The Bottom Line
Pick MyDesigns Store if you create and list at scale, Etsy if you need built-in traffic, Gumroad for courses and memberships, Payhip for flat plans, and Shopify for a full storefront. On a $10 sale the spread runs from $7.00 (Gumroad Discover) to about $9.50 (Payhip Free before PayPal or Stripe fees), so the platform you pick matters less than whether you keep listing. Plans on MyDesigns start free; paid plans run from $19.99/mo billed yearly.
